More Progress

So it's been a while since I've updated on the progress of my quilt and it's been going quite well so far, I've actually almost completed the quilt top. I had to stop because I ran out of the white fabric I was using and the sheet fabric I did have was a different weight and wouldn't look right. I've gone to the store and gotten 2 more meters so I have plenty now and can move on.

This is what the quilt top looks like with the white sashing and black squares finally added in! I have three strips this size finished so far and I only have one more section of 3 rows and I can sew them all together!

My boyfriend's mom also gave me three bolts of beautiful fabric she got for free from a teacher's recycling depot! So now I have tons of great fabric for thinkgs like backing. Now I just need to find time between jewellery and work to get back to the sewing machine!

Happy Crafting!

Time for an upgrade

So as you've seen in my photos of my dining room I have a beautiful vintage dining set I inherited from my grandmother. My mom made a silver table cloth for it when we still lived in a house and she had room for it. She also recovered the chairs in a very nice gold fabric however the gold just doesn't go with my dining room. So! Time for an Update!

I found some beatuiful tone on tone fabric at my favourite fabric store. It's a slightly asian floral pattern in white on a toapy ivory background. It's very fresh and elegant which is just perfect for my dining room.

Modded Midnight Muffins

Has it ever gotten late and suddenly you are hit with an overwhelming desire for baked goods?
It happens to me all the time.
Tonight I desired muffins.
I love muffins.
However tonight I have limited baking supplies. Only one egg. That means no pumpkin muffins. I have oatmeal though. But I don't want to spend an hour waiting for the oatmeal to soak in buttermilk. I don't have sour milk anyways and I don't have vinegar to make sour milk.
God bless the Internet and it propensity for recipes for anything.
Oatmeal muffins it is! But I don't want plain oatmeal muffins... LET THE MODDING COMMENCE!
My modding is actually not that special. I just added cinnamon, nutmeg and a cup of frozen peaches, blue berries and black berries.

I hope you enjoyed this sleep deprived baking adventure.

Making Progress

So the quilt is coming along nicely. I officially have all of the 4 square blocks sewn together. For the past few days they have been laid out in the middle of my living room floor while I tried to decide how the pattern should be laid out. (Sorry no photos, I finally cleaned them up this afternoon). So next on the list is cutting out all the sashing pieces and the black borders for all of the smaller squares that are going in between. That will be a job in itself sewing all that together.

On the jewellery front I must admit to being very lazy. :( I seem to be in a bit of a creators block and nothing seems to be going right so I haven't been able to motivate myself into going to the studio as of late. However I do have the day off tomorrow so I will endeavor to make myself go in and get something done. Sales seem to be doing pretty well in Lake Placid so I really need to get some new things made for Antediluvian. Wish me luck!

Bitten by the Quilting Bug

So as I've mentioned in my last post I've set aside my knitting for quilting. Over the past few months I've been making progress on my main project which will be a scrappy twin size bed quilt that I think I'll probably donate to the MCC Relief Sale for next year. I started by going through the fabric I could find that I already had, mostly scraps from my grandmother and my mom. Eventually I decided that I would do diagonal stripes of red, purple, blue and green in various shades and patterns. Then I allowed myself to go pick out some more fabrics from the sale racks of my two favourite fabric stores.

The pattern is a simple 4 pieced square with white lattice. Originally the plan has been to put a 3" white sashing between each block, then I thought it would be nice to but a black edging around the squares between the blocks and then put a black binding around the whole thing. However after laying out what I've done so far this morning I also like the look of the blocks the white lattice makes when you lay them out side by side!

So any ideas for what I should do? Either way I think it's turning out nicely.
While working on the big quilt I couldn't help myself with starting another quilting project and decided to make a quilted pillow for my bed since I still cannot find the vintage pillow cover I did have planned for that spot. Since I was just doing a small pillow I decided to try my hand at something a little more complicated and did a cathedral window on one side.

I used this pattern from Moda Bakeshop to do the Cathedral Window pattern and I was shocked at how much easier it was than I thought! I also decided to make it double sided so I did a bit of strip piecing for the back. I debated about whether I should put a binding on it but I didn't because I couldn't decide on a fabric that would look good on both sides. I'm a little disappointed now that I didn't. Maybe one day I'll take it apart and put one on. Either way I love how it turned out! ^_^

Stay tuned for more of my latest projects!

Once again... been a while

Well seems I've done it again. Completely ignored my blog. Well since no body actually reads this blog I guess you'll forgive me right? :P

Anyways I have been pretty busy the last couple months. I've been thrilled to be decorating my apartment to my hearts content. Of course it'll never truly be finished but it looks pretty fabulous and I couldn't be happier to live there.

So now that my apartment is more or less complete I've turned much of my attention to crafting! I recently completed a baby kimono that I made as a gift for a friend who just had a beautiful baby girl. This is my first friend to have a baby and I'm thrilled to be able to start making adorable little gifts!

My new obsession lately is also quilting! After a trip to this year's MCC Relief Sale I was bitten by the quilting bug so expect some posts about fabric and quilting!
Now it's time for me to head to work! Enjoy the rest of your weeks!
